Victor Renato Blythe, a 60-year-old child psychotherapist from Washington, D.C., has been charged by federal complaint with allegedly distributing and possessing child pornography. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

Blythe specializes in working with children and adolescents and previously worked in the Psychiatry Department at Children’s National Medical Center.

According to the complaint, Blythe is accused of communicating with another individual about his interest in the sexual abuse of children. During these communications, he allegedly distributed child pornography to that person and possessed additional videos depicting child pornography on his electronic devices.

The FBI Washington Field Office and the Metropolitan Police Department are leading the investigation, with assistance from the Fairfax County Police Department. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia is prosecuting the case.

The charges are part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project brings together federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute those who exploit children online as well as identify and rescue victims.
