Jason A. Reding Quiñones has been sworn in as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida. His appointment follows a nomination by President Donald J. Trump and confirmation by the United States Senate. The oath of office was administered by Attorney General Pam Bondi. Reding Quiñones is the first confirmed U.S. Attorney of President Trump’s second administration.
In his new role, Reding Quiñones will oversee the third-largest U.S. Attorney’s Office in the country, which is responsible for prosecuting federal criminal offenses and handling civil matters involving government interests across a region that covers more than 15,000 square miles. The Southern District of Florida includes Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, Okeechobee, and Highlands counties.
“As the son of a Cuban political refugee and a proud Miami native, I am deeply honored by the trust and confidence that President Trump, Attorney General Bondi, and the United States Senate have placed in me,” said Reding Quiñones. “As the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, I will work tirelessly to protect the American people, restore impartial justice, and defend the rule of law without fear or favor.”
Reding Quiñones previously served as a state court trial judge in Miami-Dade County where he presided over civil and criminal domestic violence cases. He also worked as a national security official in the Department of Justice’s National Security Division with a focus on counterterrorism efforts and served as a federal prosecutor in both Virginia's Eastern District and Florida's Southern District.
He has completed 22 years of military service with both the U.S. Army and Air Force in roles such as cavalry scout, infantry officer, logistics officer, and judge advocate (military lawyer). He continues to serve as a reserve lieutenant colonel providing legal counsel on national security issues to U.S. Central Command.
Reding Quiñones holds an undergraduate degree in anthropology from the University of Florida with a minor in military sciences and earned his law degree from Florida International University College of Law.
He takes over from Hayden P. O’Byrne who had led the office since January 2025. “Mr. O’Byrne is a patriot who has faithfully served this community for many years. I thank him for his leadership and look forward to building on his successes,” said Reding Quiñones.
