Federal inmate indicted for weapon and drug possession at Schuylkill facility

A federal grand jury has indicted Juawan Davis, 31, of Baltimore, Maryland, on charges of possessing a weapon and controlled substances while incarcerated at the Schuylkill Federal Correctional Facility. The indictment was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that Davis is alleged to have possessed a sharpened plexi-glass weapon with a tape handle, as well as THC and Buprenorphine, on November 14, 2024.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Assistant United States Attorney Sarah R. Lloyd is prosecuting.

According to federal law, possession of contraband in prison carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, supervised release after imprisonment, and a fine. Sentencing will be determined by a judge following consideration of federal sentencing statutes and guidelines.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasized that indictments are only allegations and that all individuals charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
