Scranton man indicted for alleged cocaine trafficking conspiracy

A federal grand jury has indicted Lee Wood, 48, of Scranton, Pennsylvania, on charges related to drug trafficking. The indictment alleges that between May 28 and August 17, 2024, Wood conspired with others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine. It also claims that on August 8, 2024, Wood distributed and possessed cocaine with the intent to distribute.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), and the Lackawanna County Drug Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Lloyd is prosecuting the case.

The charges are part of Operation Take Back America (https://www.justice.gov/dag/media/1393746/dl?inline), a national initiative led by the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime. This operation coordinates resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

If convicted under federal law, Wood faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, supervised release after imprisonment, and a fine. Sentencing will be determined by a judge based on federal statutes and sentencing guidelines.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasized that indictments are only allegations and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
