Monongalia County man pleads guilty to federal methamphetamine charge

LaShawn Monroe, a 30-year-old resident of Morgantown, West Virginia, has pleaded guilty to possessing with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. Court documents state that Monroe was found with over 1,700 grams of methamphetamine in Marion County.

Monroe could face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to life in federal prison. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge who will take into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda Wesley. The investigation was conducted by the Mon Metro Drug Task Force, which receives funding from the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program, along with the Three Rivers Drug Task Force.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi presided over the proceedings.
