Grayson County man indicted for illegal machine gun possession

A Grayson County resident has been indicted by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas for possessing a machine gun. Xavier Donnell Porter, 32, faces charges that include possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition, and possession of a machine gun.

According to the indictment, Porter was found with a machine gun on December 5, 2024. Authorities determined that he is a convicted felon and is therefore prohibited under federal law from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.

"This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN)."

If found guilty, Porter could face up to 15 years in federal prison.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is investigating this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Chalana Oliver is handling prosecution.

"A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law."
