Mescalero man receives over four years in prison for violent assault

A Mescalero man has been sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for a violent assault that left a victim with serious injuries. Spencer George Klinekole, 41, an enrolled member of the Mescalero Apache Tribe, was convicted of assaulting Jane Doe with a baseball bat on November 2, 2022.

Following his prison term, Klinekole will serve three years under supervised release. The federal system does not allow parole.

The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Acting Special Agent in Charge Philip Russell of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office. The investigation was conducted by the Las Cruces Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office with support from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Executive Assistant United States Attorney Christopher McNair is prosecuting the case.
