U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Los Indios International Bridge in Brownsville, Texas, seized more than $572,000 worth of cocaine on August 14. The narcotics were found hidden inside a 2011 Honda driven by a 32-year-old U.S. citizen from San Benito, Texas.

According to CBP officials, the vehicle was referred for secondary inspection after an initial review at the port of entry. During this process, officers used a canine unit and nonintrusive inspection technology to locate 19 packages concealed within the car. The packages contained approximately 42.85 pounds of what is believed to be cocaine.

Port Director Tater Ortiz stated, “Our officers remain continually vigilant in keeping our border secure and our country safe; and their efforts led to this significant drug seizure.”

CBP describes itself as the largest law enforcement organization in the United States and emphasizes its role in border security across land, air, and sea domains. The agency’s workforce includes over 65,000 personnel who are responsible for enforcing travel and trade laws while supporting national economic interests.

Further information about CBP activities can be found through their official social media channels.
