Mexican national sentenced for illegal reentry after previous deportation

Marco Gomez-Arguello, a 36-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced on August 7, 2025, for illegally reentering the United States after having been previously deported. The sentencing took place in New Orleans before United States District Judge Barry W. Ashe.

Gomez-Arguello had pleaded guilty to violating Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a) and Section 1326(b)(1), which address the illegal reentry of removed aliens. According to court records, he had previously been deported from the country on October 28, 2013.

Judge Ashe sentenced Gomez-Arguello to time served. In addition to this sentence, Gomez-Arguello received one year of supervised release and was ordered to pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson commented on the case by saying, "I praise the work of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) New Orleans Field Office in investigating this matter." Assistant United States Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman of the General Crimes Unit led the prosecution.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at addressing illegal immigration and related criminal activity by using resources from multiple Department of Justice programs such as Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
