Lackawanna man receives probation for Medicaid fraud involving transportation company

Munef Fadhel, a 38-year-old resident of Lackawanna, New York, has been sentenced to one year of probation for health care fraud. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo and handed down by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Franz M. Wright, Fadhel’s fraudulent activity occurred between June 2017 and December 2020 while he was an owner of Great Lake Transportation, Inc., a company that provided rides to Medicaid beneficiaries. During this period, Fadhel knowingly submitted false records for transportation reimbursement from Medicaid. He claimed shared rides as individual rides to receive higher payments, resulting in losses to Medicaid exceeding $95,000.

The investigation into the case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New York State Department of Financial Services.
