Federal prosecutors have charged Dhal Buk, 18, with carjacking and multiple firearm offenses following an incident in Denver’s Montbello neighborhood. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado, a grand jury indictment alleges that Buk committed carjacking, used a machine gun during a crime of violence, and unlawfully possessed a machine gun.
The criminal complaint details that on June 25, 2025, several individuals approached a man seated in his vehicle. One member of the group pointed a gun at the victim and ordered him out of the car. The man complied and the suspects drove away in his vehicle. Buk was identified as the person who pointed the weapon at the victim and took control of the car. After crashing into another vehicle in a parking lot, Buk and others abandoned the stolen car and fled on foot.
Law enforcement responded shortly after to a ShotSpotter alert indicating six rounds of fully automatic gunfire at a nearby park. Officers detained a juvenile accomplice at the scene and arrested Buk following a foot pursuit. Police recovered a modified Glock 9mm handgun equipped with an extended magazine loaded with live rounds. Investigators determined that this firearm had been altered to function as an automatic weapon.
"The charges contained in the indictment are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty," stated officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Denver Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Brian Dunn is prosecuting the case.
