West View resident indicted on federal child exploitation charges

A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has indicted Kevin Patrick Brown Jr., 35, of the West View neighborhood, on charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.

The indictment alleges that in August 2019, Brown used, persuaded, induced, enticed, and coerced a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing visual depictions. It also charges him with receiving child sexual abuse material in August 2019 and possessing such material in October 2021.

If convicted, Brown faces a maximum sentence of up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing would be determined based on the seriousness of the offenses and any prior criminal history under federal guidelines.

"An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty."

Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher is prosecuting the case. The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation that led to these charges.

This prosecution falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at addressing child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The program coordinates efforts among federal, state, and local agencies to locate offenders and rescue victims. Additional details about Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.justice.gov/psc.
