U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Laredo Port of Entry have seized methamphetamine with an estimated street value exceeding $704,000. The incident took place on August 19 at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge.

According to CBP, a 27-year-old male from Mexico was referred for a secondary inspection while driving a 2008 Ford Expedition. Officers used canine units and nonintrusive inspection technology during the examination. They found 12 packages containing approximately 76.63 pounds of alleged methamphetamine hidden in the driver’s personal belongings.

Port Director Alberto Flores commented on the seizure: “This significant methamphetamine seizure is a direct result of our officers’ impeccable vehicle inspection skills and attention to detail. Their vigilance and commitment to our mission play a vital role in safeguarding our communities and securing the border.”

CBP officers confiscated both the drugs and the vehicle involved. Homeland Security Investigations special agents arrested the driver and have started a criminal investigation related to this case.

CBP describes itself as America’s largest law enforcement agency, responsible for enforcing laws regarding travel and trade at U.S. borders, with more than 65,000 employees working across different environments.
