Justice Department awards over $3 million to Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement

The Department of Justice’s Office of Violence Against Women has awarded $3,382,830 to the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement (LCLE) to support efforts against violent crimes targeting women and to enhance victim services in the state. Acting U.S. Attorney Ellison C. Travis announced the funding.

Of the total amount, $2,474,419 comes from the STOP (Services, Training, Officers, Prosecutors) Violence Against Women Formula Grant Program. This grant is aimed at improving law enforcement, prosecution, and court strategies for handling violent crimes against women. It also supports the development of victim services that are community-based and culturally specific in cases involving domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

An additional $908,411 was awarded through the Sexual Assault Services Formula Program. This program provides funding to states and territories to help rape crisis centers—including governmental centers not in territories and tribal government programs—as well as nonprofit organizations that deliver core services and direct intervention for victims of sexual assault across all age groups. The funds are intended to supplement other resources directed at addressing sexual assault at state and territorial levels.

LCLE is based in Baton Rouge and works to improve criminal justice operations while promoting public safety by providing leadership and coordination within Louisiana’s criminal justice community.
