U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed an immigration detainer on Noel Gerardo Niz-Marroquin, a Guatemalan national, after his arrest in Martin County, Florida. Niz-Marroquin is accused of aggravated battery against a pregnant woman.
A senior official from the Department of Homeland Security commented on the case, stating: “What kind of depraved individual beats up a pregnant woman? Criminal illegal aliens who endanger and victimize the most vulnerable in our society must never be allowed to remain free to harm American citizens. ICE’s swift actions to issue an arrest detainer ensure this individual is NEVER allowed to terrorize American communities again.”
According to officials, Niz-Marroquin entered the United States illegally via the southern border on March 14, 2022, and was released into the country.
ICE reports that it continues to focus on apprehending and removing individuals considered violent offenders or criminal aliens who are seen as threats to public safety. The agency states that 70 percent of its arrests involve criminal illegal aliens charged or convicted of crimes within the United States. ICE also targets foreign fugitives, gang members, and individuals suspected of terrorism.
The Department of Homeland Security encourages victims of crimes committed by illegal aliens to seek assistance through its Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) Office at 1-855-488-6423.
