A Mexican national living in Anaheim was sentenced to 23 years in federal prison for producing, distributing, and possessing child sexual abuse material involving a 13-year-old girl. Jonathan Gonzalez-Reyes, 39, received the sentence from United States District Judge David O. Carter in Santa Ana. The judge also ordered Gonzalez-Reyes to pay $3,000 in restitution to the victim.
Gonzalez-Reyes was convicted by a federal jury on April 30 after a three-day trial. He was found guilty of one count of production of child pornography, two counts of distribution of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography. He has been held in federal custody since June 2024.
According to court documents, Gonzalez-Reyes and his co-defendant Nanci Jasmin Castillo, 32, befriended the minor victim in February 2021. At Castillo’s home, both defendants sexually assaulted the girl after she was given alcohol while already under the influence of Xanax anti-anxiety medication. The assault was photographed and recorded.
Law enforcement discovered images and videos depicting the abuse on Gonzalez-Reyes’ phone and Castillo’s iCloud account. Authorities also found evidence that Gonzalez-Reyes sent copies of these materials to Castillo.
In September 2021, Gonzalez-Reyes knowingly possessed and distributed additional images showing the same victim engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Castillo pleaded guilty on February 5 to one count of production of child pornography. She has also been in federal custody since June 2024. On July 28, Judge Carter sentenced her to 20 years in prison and ordered her to pay $3,000 in restitution.
The investigation involved several agencies including the FBI, Anaheim Police Department, Los Angeles Regional Human Trafficking Task Force, Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, and ZOE International.
Assistant United States Attorney Chelsea Norell from the Major Crimes Section and Special Assistant United States Attorney Blake Hannah from the General Crimes Section prosecuted the case.
