A Gorham resident, Timothy Riley, was sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for robbing a Waterboro bank while brandishing a handgun. The sentencing took place in U.S. District Court in Portland before Judge Nancy Torresen, who also ordered five years of supervised release and restitution to the victim bank. Riley, age 42, had pleaded guilty on March 17, 2025.
Court records show that in June 2024, Riley entered a Waterboro bank armed with a Glock Model 19 handgun and demanded money from a teller. He left the scene on a dirt bike after obtaining cash. Deputies from the York County Sheriff’s Office pursued him until he left the road and they could not follow further by vehicle. Investigators used canine tracking to recover a handgun and baseball cap matching those seen during the robbery. Riley was apprehended later that evening and admitted his involvement.
Riley’s criminal record includes previous convictions for burglary and robbery at the state level as well as a federal conviction for interfering with commerce by robbery. These prior offenses prohibit him from legally possessing firearms.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI with support from the York County Sheriff’s Office and Buxton Police Department.
