A federal court has overturned a labor rule that was part of the 2023 Adverse Effect Wage Rate Rule, a move welcomed by the American Farm Bureau Federation. The decision vacates a disaggregation labor rule that many in the agricultural sector found burdensome and unfair.
Zippy Duvall, President of the American Farm Bureau Federation, expressed approval of the court's decision. "Farm Bureau is pleased that the Department of Labor and a federal judge recognized that elements of the 2023 labor rule created an unfair wage structure that forced farmers to pay employees for jobs they may not usually perform," he said. Duvall emphasized that while farmers support paying fair wages, compensation should align with the work performed.
The American Farm Bureau Federation has been advocating for changes to the H-2A guestworker program to ensure fairness for workers and affordability for farmers. Duvall noted appreciation for the administration's responsiveness to these concerns and urged continued reforms to improve the H-2A program and stabilize the workforce for farm families.
