Inmate at FCI McDowell receives additional prison time for possessing weapon

Demetrius McKinney, 45, an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) McDowell, has been sentenced to one year and one month in prison for possessing a weapon while incarcerated. The sentence will be served consecutively to his current term. Following his release from prison, McKinney will also undergo three years of supervised release.

Court records show that on April 24, 2024, McKinney was involved in an altercation at FCI McDowell. During a subsequent search by facility staff, a handcrafted weapon—described as a metal shank about six and a half inches long with one end sharpened and a cloth handle—was found in his right front pants pocket.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston stated: "Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston made the announcement and commended the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Prisons."

Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber handed down the sentence. Assistant United States Attorneys Brian D. Parsons and Timothy D. Boggess prosecuted the case.
