A Jackson man has entered a guilty plea in federal court for attempting to rob a dollar store in Jackson. Court documents state that on May 2, 2022, Torrance Stewart, 31, went into a local business armed with a pistol and threatened the store clerk while demanding money from the cash register. When the register malfunctioned, Stewart left the scene on foot. Officers from the Jackson Police Department apprehended him in a nearby neighborhood.
Stewart is scheduled to be sentenced on December 15, 2025. He could face up to 20 years in prison. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge after reviewing U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal considerations.

Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon of the Southern District of Mississippi and ATF Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson announced the plea.
The United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives is conducting the investigation with support from the Jackson Police Department.
