President Trump has exercised his authority under the Impoundment Control Act for the first time in five decades, canceling $5 billion in foreign aid and international organization funding. The administration states that these funds do not align with its “America First” priorities.

The canceled items include $2.7 million allocated for “inclusive democracy” programs in South Africa, $4 million intended for “global LGBTQI+ awareness,” and funds directed to the “Global Labor Program.” According to the announcement, these programs were deemed not to be in America’s interest.

“None of these programs are in America’s interest, which is why the President is taking decisive action to put America and Americans first,” Secretary Rubio said.

The move follows a broader effort by President Trump since taking office to reduce fraud, waste, and abuse within government spending. The administration claims these steps have resulted in billions of dollars saved for American workers.
