Wampum man receives 17-year sentence for production of child sexual abuse material

A former Wampum, Pennsylvania resident has been sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for producing child sexual abuse material. The sentencing was announced by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.

United States District Judge Christy Criswell Wiegand delivered the sentence to Thomas Hyatt-Baney, age 22, on August 28, 2025. After his prison term, Hyatt-Baney will be subject to 15 years of supervised release. Restitution will be determined at a later hearing.

Court documents revealed that on June 25, 2023, between 12:30 p.m. and 12:37 p.m., Hyatt-Baney used his phone to create three videos depicting the sexual exploitation of a toddler. The court also considered his involvement in producing another video of the same victim and possessing hundreds of images and videos showing minors being sexually exploited.

Assistant United States Attorney Carolyn J. Bloch prosecuted the case for the government.

Acting United States Attorney Rivetti stated: "I commend the Pennsylvania State Police and Homeland Security Investigations for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Hyatt-Baney."

The case was prosecuted under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse by bringing together federal, state, and local resources to investigate and prosecute offenders as well as identify victims.
