Honduran inmate receives additional sentence for possessing methamphetamine at Beaumont federal facility

A Honduran national incarcerated in the Eastern District of Texas has received an additional prison sentence for possessing methamphetamine while in custody, according to a statement from Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

Viljar Eduardo Rosales-Lara, 35, pleaded guilty to possession of a prohibited object in prison. On September 2, 2025, U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone sentenced him to 33 months in federal prison.

Court documents revealed that Rosales-Lara was serving time at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Beaumont when he was found with 15 individually wrapped bundles of methamphetamine during a pat-down search inside his cell.

The case falls under Operation Take Back America, which is described as "a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime." The operation coordinates efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

The FBI investigated this case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Grove handled prosecution.
