Honduran citizen sentenced to prison for illegal reentry into the United States

A Honduran national, Wilmer Antonio Garcia-Aquino, has been sentenced for illegally reentering the United States after being previously removed. Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Garcia-Aquino, 43, was sentenced on August 21, 2025.

U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk imposed a sentence of three months imprisonment and three years of supervised release following Garcia-Aquino’s release from prison. He is also required to pay a $100 special assessment fee. Upon completion of his prison term, Garcia-Aquino will be transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings as outlined by the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson stated: "Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson praised the work of the United States Bureau of Customs and Border Protection investigating this matter." The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Irene González of the General Crimes Unit.
