A Spencer, Iowa man has been sentenced to over eight years in federal prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. Dylan Everett Halbur, 33, received the sentence on August 27, 2025, following his guilty plea earlier this year.
Halbur pleaded guilty on March 28, 2025, to one count of possession with intent to distribute a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine.
During court proceedings, evidence was presented that law enforcement executed a search warrant on August 26, 2024. The search took place at a camper in Spencer where Halbur was known to live and store belongings. Authorities found approximately 45 grams of methamphetamine, $2,900 in cash, marijuana, a digital scale and other items associated with drug use and distribution. Halbur admitted ownership of the methamphetamine and said he intended to distribute some or all of it.
United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand handed down the sentence in Sioux City. Halbur was ordered to serve 105 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
Halbur is currently held by the United States Marshal’s Service until he can be transported to federal prison.
