A Hartford man has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for his role in trafficking fentanyl and cocaine. Joshua Roman, 33, received a 72-month sentence followed by four years of supervised release from U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport.
According to information presented in court, the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Hartford Task Force began investigating a drug trafficking organization in July 2022 that was distributing large amounts of fentanyl and cocaine throughout Connecticut. The investigation used wiretaps, surveillance, controlled narcotics purchases, and other methods. Authorities said Roman, who led the Loose Cannonz motorcycle club, attempted to broker deals involving kilogram quantities of fentanyl and carfentanil. Investigators also found that Roman and his associates were receiving shipments of these drugs for distribution in the Hartford area.
On May 18, 2023, investigators conducted a controlled purchase of about 100 grams of fentanyl from Roman. He was arrested on June 7, 2023 at a residence in Hartford where police seized roughly 50 grams of fentanyl from him. A search that same day at the Loose Cannonz clubhouse in East Hartford turned up another 50 grams of fentanyl.
Roman pleaded guilty on May 5, 2025 to possession with intent to distribute more than 40 grams of fentanyl. He is currently out on a $100,000 bond and must report to prison on October 22.
The case involved cooperation among several agencies including the DEA’s Hartford Task Force, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. The task force consists of personnel from multiple local police departments as well as state and federal agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Reed Durham and Robert Dearington are prosecuting the case through the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces Program.
