New Orleans man sentenced to over 17 years for drug and gun offenses

Brandon Turner, 39, was sentenced on August 26, 2025, by United States District Judge Susie Morgan after pleading guilty to three federal charges. Turner faced counts for possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Turner received a total sentence of 210 months. This includes 150 months for the first and third counts, served concurrently, and an additional 60 months for the second count, served consecutively. Upon completion of his prison term, Turner will be subject to four years of supervised release. He is also required to pay a $300 mandatory special assessment fee.

Court documents show that Turner was arrested on January 30, 2024, on suspicion of narcotics trafficking. A search of his apartment led law enforcement officers to discover fentanyl, ammunition, and a Glock Model 43 nine-millimeter pistol. Authorities noted that Turner was aware he was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to his status as a convicted felon.

The case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department of Justice launched an updated violent crime reduction strategy for PSN on May 26, 2021. The strategy focuses on building trust within communities, supporting organizations that work to prevent violence before it occurs, setting targeted enforcement priorities, and tracking results.

"Acting United States Attorney Simpson praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New Orleans Police Department, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Troy Bell of the Violent Crime Unit."
