Orleans Parish man pleads guilty to wire fraud involving real estate firm

Jason Pick, a 44-year-old resident of New Orleans, pleaded guilty on September 3, 2025, to an eight-count indictment for wire fraud. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson.

Court documents state that between June 2020 and October 25, 2021, Pick worked as an accounting clerk for a company managing residential and commercial real estate in New Orleans. During this period, he stole approximately $64,137 from the company by altering money orders meant as rent payments from tenants and depositing them into his own bank account.

While awaiting sentencing for defrauding a previous employer, Pick submitted a fraudulent letter to a federal judge. The letter claimed it was a busy period for the company and requested a delay in his prison report date. The letter was forged by Pick without the knowledge of the company's owner or any awareness of Pick's crimes. The court granted the request based on this false information.

Before reporting to serve his sentence, Pick told the company he needed emergency kidney surgery but could continue working remotely. On his way to prison, he accessed the company's computer system remotely and edited accounting records to hide the stolen funds.

If convicted, Pick faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

The United States Secret Service investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney G. Dall Kammer, Chief of the General Crimes Unit, is prosecuting.
