Justice Department awards over $350K to Louisiana groups addressing violence against women

The Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women has provided a total of $353,303 in grant funding to two Louisiana organizations, according to an announcement from Acting U.S. Attorney Ellison C. Travis.

The Louisiana Foundation Against Sexual Assault, Inc. received $243,213. The funds will support efforts such as working with local sexual assault programs and service providers to encourage appropriate responses to sexual assault across the state. The foundation will also collaborate with judicial and law enforcement agencies on sexual assault cases and coordinate with courts, child protective services agencies, and children’s advocates regarding child custody and visitation when sexual assault is a factor. Additional activities include designing public education campaigns, planning and monitoring grant distribution within the state or territory, and collaborating with federal, state, or local officials to develop policies aimed at reducing or eliminating sexual assault.

The Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Inc. was awarded $110,090. This funding is intended for coordinating victim services activities at the state level and facilitating collaboration among federal, state, territory, and local entities engaged in violence against women initiatives.
