Seattle man sentenced to over four years for illegal firearm possession

A Seattle man with previous state and federal convictions has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for illegal firearm possession. The sentencing took place in U.S. District Court in Seattle, where Acting U.S. Attorney Teal Luthy Miller announced the decision.

Kenan Dejuan Brown, 42, was arrested on October 20, 2023. Police responded to a 9-1-1 call about a car that had left the road and hit a tree. Brown was found behind the wheel, initially attempting to communicate with officers before losing consciousness. Officers observed the handle of a gun protruding from his jacket pocket and recovered a Glock 19 with an extended magazine and one round chambered.

Brown has prior convictions in King and Kitsap Superior Courts for domestic violence assaults, violations of court orders, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He also holds a federal conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

At the sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge James L. Robart commented on Brown’s claim that he “felt safe” with a firearm: “In my experience a gun is an invitation to get into trouble,” Judge Robart said.

Brown pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm on February 14, 2025. As part of his sentence, Judge Robart ordered him to undergo drug and alcohol treatment and imposed three years of supervised release following his prison term.

The case was investigated by the Seattle Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney Brian Wynne prosecuted the case.
