Harrison County doctor receives two-year sentence for improper Adderall prescriptions

A Harrison County physician has been sentenced to two years in federal prison after being convicted of improperly prescribing Adderall and destroying evidence during a federal investigation.

David Elwood Hess, 61, from Bridgeport, West Virginia, was found guilty earlier this year of writing Adderall prescriptions to patients without legitimate medical reasons and outside accepted professional practices. Authorities reported that after investigators seized Hess’s phone as part of the inquiry, he remotely wiped the device.

Following his prison term, Hess will be under supervised release for three years.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Andrew Cogar and Eleanor Hurney. The Drug Enforcement Administration led the investigation. Chief U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Kleeh presided over the proceedings.
