Three men have been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to a series of armed robberies that led to the temporary closure of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Dylan Charles Jungwirth, 21, Kenneth Toy Spight, 21, and Kemonie Hurd, 18, are accused of carrying out multiple gas station robberies in a stolen vehicle on August 17, 2025.
According to authorities, the defendants used a realistic airsoft gun to threaten employees during their crime spree. The incidents took place at three locations: a Speedway gas station in Roseville at 5:56am; a BP gas station in Little Canada at 8:34am; and another BP gas station in Roseville at 9:05am. During the third robbery, an altercation occurred when one defendant demanded the cashier’s wallet. After the cashier refused and tried to take control of the weapon, he was struck on the head with it, resulting in injuries.
Law enforcement pursued the suspects after the third robbery into St. Paul where their vehicle crashed. One suspect was arrested immediately while two others fled into nearby woods before being apprehended later following a search operation.
The events unfolded as preparations for the Minnesota State Fair were underway. Police activity near the fairgrounds prompted law enforcement to issue an emergency alert at 10:20am closing off access south of the area until an “all clear” message was later sent.
Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson stated, “The State Fair is one Minnesota’s most cherished traditions. It is a time for all of us to come together and celebrate the state and the end of summer,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson. “These defendants brought violence to that celebration with their armed robbery spree. Anyone who does that will see federal charges.”
All three defendants made initial appearances in federal court and remain detained pending further proceedings. If convicted, they could face up to life imprisonment.
The investigation involved multiple agencies including the FBI, Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Fair Police Department, Roseville Police Department, and St. Anthony Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristian Weir is prosecuting this case.
Authorities emphasized that indictments are allegations only and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court.
