Monongalia County man pleads guilty to failing sex offender registration update

Fred Bolden, a 61-year-old resident of Morgantown, West Virginia, has admitted in federal court to failing to update his sex offender registration after moving from Ohio to West Virginia in 2023. The admission was made during proceedings held in Clarksburg.

Court records show that Bolden is required to register as a sex offender for life due to a previous rape conviction in Ohio. His move across state lines without updating his registration constitutes a violation of federal law.

Bolden could face up to ten years in federal prison if convicted. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge, who will take into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant legal factors.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David Perri. The investigation was conducted by the United States Marshals Service. U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi presided over the hearing.
