Four charged with federal immigration crimes in Huntsville under DOJ initiative

A federal grand jury in Huntsville has indicted four individuals on immigration-related charges, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona.

The indictments include Victor Alfonso Contreras-Gonzalez, 41, and Jose Jacuinde-Gutierrez, 32, both citizens of Mexico; Arturo Ayala-Aviles, 33, a citizen of El Salvador; and Marco Antonio Sanchez-Avila, 47, also a citizen of Mexico. Contreras-Gonzalez and Ayala-Aviles are charged with illegally reentering the United States after deportation. Jacuinde-Gutierrez faces charges for illegal reentry as well as distribution of cocaine. Sanchez-Avila is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and an alien in possession of a firearm.

“These cases are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN). Operation Take Back America partner Homeland Security Investigations investigated these cases,” said U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona.

Authorities note that an indictment contains only charges and that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
