A Mexican national, Jose Ricardo Lopez Munoz, has been sentenced to 13 months and one day in prison for illegally reentering the United States after having been removed from the country on three previous occasions. The sentence was handed down by United States Chief District Judge Andrew Gordan and will be followed by three years of supervised release.
Court documents and statements presented during proceedings indicate that Lopez Munoz was found in the United States on December 1, 2023. He had previously been deported to Mexico on November 13, 1995, February 26, 1997, and August 1, 2013.
Lopez Munoz was arrested by state law enforcement in Clark County, Nevada, on November 28, 2023, for False Statement to Obstruct Public Officer. His criminal history includes a felony conviction for Menacing in El Paso County, Colorado in 2002 and another felony conviction for Challenge to Fight with use of a Deadly Weapon and with the Intent to Promote Further or Assist a Criminal Gang in Clark County, Nevada in 2007. After serving over six years in prison related to these offenses, he was deported for a third time in 2013.
He pleaded guilty to one count of Deported Alien Found in the United States. Upon completion of his prison term, Lopez Munoz will be deported to Mexico for a fourth time.

The case was investigated by ICE Salt Lake City’s Las Vegas Sub-Office and prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.
