Keyon Slaughter, a 28-year-old resident of Waldorf, Maryland, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for the murder of Dana Bailey, Jr. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Slaughter entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder while armed on June 20, 2025. The sentence was handed down by Judge Danya Dayson on September 12, 2025. In addition to the prison term, Slaughter will serve five years of supervised release.
Court documents state that on December 5, 2022, at about 10:15 a.m., Slaughter went into Dana Bailey, Jr.’s home in Southeast Washington, D.C. Once inside the apartment, he confronted Bailey and shot him once in the chest with a .40 caliber handgun. Slaughter then left the scene. At the time of the incident, Slaughter was involved in a relationship with Bailey’s wife. She was also indicted and pleaded guilty to obstructing justice.
At the time of the murder, Slaughter was under supervised probation for an armed robbery conspiracy conviction from Charles County, Maryland in 2019. He was arrested in July 2023 and has remained in custody since then.
Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in announcing the sentencing.
“In announcing the sentence,” said U.S. Attorney Pirro and Chief Smith, “we commend the work of those who investigated the case from MPD’s Homicide Branch.”
They also acknowledged Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles R. Jones for prosecuting the case.
