A Westbrook resident was sentenced in federal court in Portland for distributing cocaine and cocaine base. Francis Mezan, 35, received a sentence of 27 months in prison and three years of supervised release from U.S. District Judge Nancy Torresen after pleading guilty earlier this year.

According to court records, law enforcement used a cooperating source to purchase cocaine and cocaine base from Mezan on three occasions between July 18, 2024, and September 5, 2024. Investigators recorded and monitored these transactions.

The case was investigated by the FBI with support from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Portland Police Department.

“This prosecution is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation. OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten the United States by using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach that leverages the strengths of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies against criminal networks.”
