Mexican national pleads guilty to unlawful reentry charge in eastern Oklahoma

Jose Luis Jimenez-Hernandez, a 45-year-old Mexican national, has pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a removed alien in federal court in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that Jimenez-Hernandez was unlawfully present in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

According to the indictment, Jimenez-Hernandez was found in the United States on July 24, 2025, without obtaining permission from the Secretary of Homeland Security after being previously removed from the country on three occasions: January 10, 2012; June 14, 2013; and October 25, 2013.

The investigation leading to this charge was conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division. The case is part of Operation Take Back America. According to the press release: "Operation Take Back America is a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN)."

The plea was accepted by U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Edward Snow in federal court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Judge Snow ordered a presentence investigation report be completed before sentencing.

A U.S. District Court Judge will determine Jimenez-Hernandez's sentence after reviewing federal sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors. He faces up to two years in prison and a fine not exceeding $250,000.

Jimenez-Hernandez will remain in custody with the United States Marshals Service until sentencing takes place.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Dak T. Cohen represented the government in this matter.
