DHS proposes changes to H-1B visa selection process

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has introduced a proposed rule aimed at altering the selection process for H-1B visa applicants. This change would replace the current random selection method with a weighted system based on wage levels. Under this proposal, individuals with higher wage levels would have a greater chance of being selected.

The new rule would impact both regular cap registrations and those eligible for the H-1B advanced degree exemption. It mandates the inclusion of additional wage level information, such as Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics, Standard Occupational Classification codes, and details about the intended employment area.

"AHA members will receive additional details on the rule in the coming days," according to a statement from DHS.
