Clinton J. Johnson U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma
A man from Prue, Oklahoma, has been sentenced for sexually abusing a 14-year-old and receiving child pornography, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson.
Caleb Paul Toothman, age 43, received a sentence of 365 months in prison followed by lifetime supervised release. After his release, he will be required to register as a sex offender. Judge John F. Heil III also ordered Toothman to pay $3,000 in restitution.
The case details indicate that in December 2023, Toothman made contact with the minor through a website and continued communication over social media platforms. The minor left their home on two occasions to meet Toothman. He then picked up the victim and drove to a park where the abuse occurred. Additionally, authorities say Toothman requested and obtained sexually explicit images from the minor.
Toothman is identified as a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and will remain in custody until he is transferred to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations along with the Tulsa Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nathan Michel and Kate Brandon.
"This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by U.S. Attorneys' Offices and CEOS, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims," stated officials involved in the initiative.
