A Springfield resident was found guilty of drug trafficking offenses after a three-day trial in federal court. Marcus Hicks, 43, was convicted on charges including possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of crack cocaine, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni has scheduled sentencing for January 27, 2026.
Hicks was indicted by a federal grand jury in September 2023. According to evidence presented at trial, on November 21, 2022, he possessed 97 grams of cocaine, 15 grams of crack cocaine, and two and one-half pounds of marijuana intended for distribution.
Each count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a fine reaching $1 million. The marijuana charge carries a potential penalty of up to five years in prison as well as similar terms for supervised release and fines. Sentencing will be determined by the judge according to the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd E. Newhouse is prosecuting the case.
