U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry seized over $200,000 worth of cocaine during an inspection on September 22. According to CBP officials, the discovery was made when a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 28-year-old lawful permanent resident of the United States was referred for secondary inspection at the Del Rio International Bridge.
During the secondary inspection, officers used canines and nonintrusive inspection technology before conducting a physical search. They found six packages containing approximately 15.12 pounds of suspected cocaine hidden inside decorative obsidian figurines. The estimated street value of the drugs is $201,931.
Port Director Liliana Flores stated, “This significant narcotic seizure is a direct reflection of the dedication and vigilance of our officers. These types of seizures underscore CBP’s resolve to intercept dangerous narcotics and hold those who attempt to smuggle them accountable.”
The narcotics were seized by CBP, while Texas Department of Public Safety officers arrested the driver and two additional passengers. A criminal investigation has been initiated.
CBP describes itself as America’s largest law enforcement organization responsible for unified border management across land, air, and sea. The agency says it enforces travel and trade laws while working to enhance national security through innovation and collaboration.
