St. Charles Parish woman charged with embezzling over $130K through wire fraud

A woman from Ama, Louisiana, has been charged with wire fraud after allegedly embezzling more than $130,000 from her employer. According to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson, Ashley Hymel, 42, was charged on September 18, 2025 by bill of information for violating federal wire fraud statutes.

Prosecutors allege that Hymel used a company credit card to take at least $130,663.92 while working as an executive assistant at the unnamed company.

If convicted, Hymel could face up to twenty years in prison, followed by up to five years of supervised release. She also faces a potential fine of up to $250,000 and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson emphasized: "a bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt."

Simpson credited the Federal Bureau of Investigation for its role in investigating the case. Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas Moses is handling the prosecution.
