A Wood County man has been sentenced to prison for defrauding a Toledo-based computer technology support company of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Blake Underwood, 45, from Perrysburg, Ohio, received a 24-month prison sentence from U.S. District Judge Jack Zouhary after pleading guilty to wire fraud in May. Following his imprisonment, Underwood will also serve three years of supervised release.

Court documents revealed that Underwood was employed by Nemsys, LLC and became the CEO after the company's owners moved to Florida to manage another business. From December 2019 until April 2023, Underwood executed a scheme in which he used company funds intended for revitalizing a historic Toledo property to purchase building supplies for his personal residence. The investigation further found that Underwood used company money to pay personal credit card bills and buy items such as vehicles, golf club memberships, and jewelry.

The fraudulent activity came to light in 2023 when the owners investigated Nemsys's financial underperformance and uncovered Underwood’s misuse of funds.

The FBI Toledo Field Office led the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Robert N. Melching prosecuted the case for the Northern District of Ohio.
