Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Peruvian Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer during the 80th United Nations High-Level Week in New York. The meeting focused on expanding cooperation between the United States and Peru, particularly in economic and security areas.
According to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott, the two officials discussed ways to deepen collaboration, increase economic opportunities for U.S. industries, and strengthen their countries’ security partnership.
Landau praised Peru’s participation in regional efforts to address illegal immigration. He also stressed the importance of joint actions to counter criminal and terrorist networks, fight money laundering, and protect elections from illicit financial influence. The Deputy Secretary acknowledged Peru’s leadership in promoting economic growth and highlighted U.S. interest in investing further in Peru’s critical minerals and infrastructure sectors.
Landau reiterated the United States’ commitment to working closely with Peru for a more secure and prosperous hemisphere.
