An Akron man has been sentenced to 35 years in federal prison for drug and firearms offenses. Antoine D. Cook, 46, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Donald C. Nugent after a jury found him guilty in June on multiple charges, including possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as being a felon in possession of ammunition.
Court records show that on May 1, 2024, Cook was found with about 25 grams of methamphetamine and three grams of cocaine, both packaged for sale. Authorities also discovered more than 80 rounds of ammunition in his possession. Cook's prior convictions include several counts of domestic violence (1996, 2010, 2012, and 2014), distribution of a controlled substance (2002), aggravated assault (2012 and 2015), and felonious assault (2018).
Due to his history of serious drug and violent felony convictions, Cook was classified as a career offender and armed career criminal under federal sentencing guidelines. This resulted in an enhanced sentence.
Cook will also serve eight years of supervised release following his imprisonment.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) led the investigation into this case with support from the Ohio Adult Parole Authority.
