Seven-time convicted felon receives fifteen-year federal prison sentence

Sean P. Costello U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama

A resident of Irvington, Alabama, Voeruth Meas, 40, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison following his third felony conviction. Meas was sentenced for two charges: being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Court records show that Meas’s first federal conviction included conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and knowingly possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number. He received a sentence of 188 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release in November 2006. While on supervised release after this sentence, Meas was arrested again on three counts: felon in possession of a firearm, drug user in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. He pled guilty to these charges and was sentenced in April 2015 to 70 months imprisonment, consecutive to an eight-month term for violating his supervised release conditions.

After being released from custody on April 5, 2021, Meas failed to comply with the terms of his supervision. An arrest warrant was issued on August 11, 2021. When U.S. deputy marshals arrested him on October 19, 2021, they found him carrying a Smith & Wesson 9 mm semiautomatic pistol as well as methamphetamine ice, marijuana, cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Meas’s most recent arrest occurred on July 25, 2024. According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office investigation, he had been selling methamphetamine at a motel parking lot on West I-65 Service Road in Mobile. Deputies stopped his vehicle as he left the area and discovered methamphetamine ice inside. After being read his rights, Meas admitted responsibility for distributing about 168 grams of methamphetamine ice.

In May 2025, Meas pled guilty to the latest charges: felon in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

United States District Court Judge Kristi Dubose handed down the current sentence and ordered that Meas serve ten years under supervised release following his imprisonment. As part of his supervision conditions, Meas will undergo testing and treatment for substance abuse and be subject to searches based on reasonable suspicion. No fine was imposed; however, he must pay $200 in special assessments. The judge also ordered forfeiture of the firearm seized during the October 2021 arrest.

The United States Marshals Service and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gloria Bedwell prosecuted it.
