Mobile man sentenced to over 17 years for child pornography offenses

Sean P. Costello U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama

A Mobile resident, Jason Jones, 46, has been sentenced to 210 months in federal prison after being convicted of producing child pornography and attempting to entice a child. According to court records, Jones posed as an attractive teenage boy on social media platforms including Snap Chat throughout 2024. He manipulated young girls into sending him explicit images and communicated with two minor victims aged 11 and 13.

Investigators found that Jones also distributed pornographic and obscene material through internet-based applications in efforts to entice underage girls into sexually explicit conduct. A search warrant executed during the investigation led authorities to discover child pornography on three of his devices.

Following his prison term, Jones will be subject to a 15-year supervised release period. During this time, he is barred from possessing internet-capable devices and having contact with minors. He must also register as a sex offender.

U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama announced the sentence. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Tandice H. Blackwood prosecuted it for the United States.

The prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide by coordinating resources across federal, state, and local agencies to apprehend offenders and assist victims.
