The U.S. Department of Commerce has announced that, following the expiration of federal funding on September 30, 2025, it is implementing its plan for an orderly shutdown due to a lapse in congressional appropriations.

A notice posted by the department states: "Due to a lapse in federal funding, this website is not being updated. Learn more."

The department indicated that it is prepared for a significant reduction in operations as required by the lapse in funding and is currently putting its shutdown plan into effect.

According to the announcement: "In compliance with the restrictions of the Antideficiency Act, the Department of Commerce will maintain the following services and activities during a lapse in appropriations." The statement also notes: "The following services and activities will cease during a lapse, except to the extent funded by other than the current year’s annual appropriations."

The department further clarified: "Upon the enactment of appropriations and the resumption of regular operations, operating units and Departmental offices may resume program activities consistent with all applicable Departmental operating procedures."

This action follows standard protocol for federal agencies when Congress does not pass appropriations legislation by the end of the fiscal year.
