In 2024, Americans reported losses of nearly $13 billion due to fraud, according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Imposter scams continue to be the most frequently reported type of fraud. Increasingly complex schemes involving individuals posing as government or business representatives are causing significant financial harm.

The FTC is collaborating with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Social Security Administration (SSA) to address this issue. The agencies will host a webinar to discuss common government imposter scams and share free resources designed to help people recognize and avoid these schemes.

The online event is scheduled for October 7, 2025, at 12 p.m. Eastern Time. Participants can join via Zoom using meeting ID 160 819 2025 and passcode 550031, or by phone through several listed numbers.

According to the FTC, imposter scams remain a persistent threat, prompting ongoing efforts from federal agencies to educate the public about prevention strategies. Additional information about recent fraud statistics is available on the FTC website.

"Join experts from the FTC, SEC, and SSA for a discussion about the most common government imposter scams and learn about free resources to help you avoid these scams," states an announcement from event organizers.
